the Untitled project

pushing the go button

April 14, 2018

What unfulfilled yearning do you have to create something more awesome? What's your new project? What are you going to do about it?

I met Malcolm Saunders while I was speaking at the local chapter of the Canadian Association of Public Speakers. Malcolm is the very successful founder of the Light Cellar, a Calgary-based elixir bar and retailer of super foods (he makes some of the best chocolate I've ever had). He was there as I was to expand his presence and profile as a public speaker. I have done several keynotes to large audiences but I was given 70 minutes to fill and I had never carried that much of the show before. Very scary. Very Cool.

I coach a number of very successful high-profile entrepreneurs like W. Brett Wilson, who have given me very generous and very broad access to speak about our work together. I think my audience is generally very intrigued to learn the gory details of the triumphs and personal struggles of these great people. I've been told that it feels like they have been let in on something that they shouldn't be witnessing. But it's done with full transparency and full permission.

Malcolm has achieved a level of success that most small business people dream of but never attain. Somewhere along the way, he came to the conclusion that society might end up in better shape if more of us learned to use business as a way to contribute much-needed solutions to the world around us. There are too many people in the process of dying with their fruit still on the vine.

Despite being an accomplished speaker and trainer, Malcolm was not at all clear about his message when I "asked" him to commit to a date for his inaugural epic keynote experience. This one was almost too personal. He didn't like the idea at all (or me for a few days), but to his credit he booked the venue, set a price and decided how many people he wanted to get his message out to. After a few days of night sweats, he began to find what he was looking for inside of himself and he is getting prepared to let people in on what he's found. It is shaping up to be powerful and vulnerable and inspiring and insightful. I am sure it will have the juicy quality that all great speakers manage to get to.

The idea of an "untitled project" is such a juicy concept. Since we have been working to shape the event, the content and the presentation approach, I have been getting clearer about some deep yearning I have to mix it up and do something new and cool. We all have stirrings of greatness that we don't quite have a handle on and therefore don't do anything about. I can feel the beat of my heart and something wants out. I am getting off my ass and going next Friday evening (the 20th) to sort what that is.

Malcolm got off his ass and is doing something about it. I think he is just 1 person away from his goal. If you have something brewing and want to find out what that is come and join me and Malcolm this coming Friday. I am going to be on the edge of my seat. I hope you will be too. You can get more information here. Malcolm didn't need to be completely clear before he pushed the go button. Neither do we.
